Software Engineer / Tech Lead @ Range
I'm a software engineer who has formerly worked as a UX designer and product manager as well. I work at Range and enjoy thinking and discussing how work teams can be better, healthier, more supportive places for the people on them.
Yeah, it seems to me that a shift to some sort of "hybrid" workspace without any other process changes won't go very well. Workplaces are going to need to rethink how they measure and recognize contributions (among many other things) in order to make the transition work well. My hope is that, for the workplaces where people do that rethinking, it has the potential to improve equity by eliminating sources of bias and recognizing more types of contributions. After all, these sources of bias in recognition already existed and were hard at work in pre-pandemic office-based workplaces.
